Hi EC fans.

When I moved to Australia from Canada in 1975, one of the first acts I
went to see in Sydney was a guy who calls himself Richard Clapton. He
had just had a number one hit with a song called "Girls on the Avenue",
recorded the year before. I can't quite remember the details, but I met
him at the famous Sydney Opera House after a farewell gig for someone or
other, and next thing I knew I was in his band recording his next album
"Mainstreet Jive", and then "Goodbye Tiger", which went to number one
also.

Richard is a consummate songwriter with a real neat way with words. His
songs revolve around conventional chord progressions a la Jackson
Browne, and he's considered by most to be the best DownUnder. I played
slide on several of his albums, including a tune called "Capricorn
Dancer", which was a huge turntable hit down here. It was part of a
surfing movie soundtrack.

I saw more of this continent in the three or four years I toured with
him -- 75,76,77 -- than most Aussies, from Perth to Tasmania to North
Queensland and all points in between. Lots of stories. I eventually left
the band, I can't remember why, but years later I wound up on a live
show video he put together of all his big hits, using the original
players.

I've also had the unique pleasure of hearing the guitar lines I'd
invented years before in the studio replicated by subsequent guitarists
he'd used later on. Some of them even managed to emulate my slide guitar
without slide!

The point to all of this is that, ever since those days, I've always
been known down here in Oz as the slide player who used to play with
Eric Clapton. "Richard", I used tell them, but they prefer to hear Eric.
Now I just nod.

All the best, drop in for a visit to hear my brand of slide if you're
interested.

Any Houston-area folks going to the BB King Blues fest on Saturday at The
Woodlands? Wanna say "hi" before or after the shows?
Looks like it's going to be a great day...
BB, Buddy, JVaughan, Tommy Castro, Double Trouble, Doyle....

I find it inconceivable that people are blaming Dave for their AOL
related problems. Well, here is an ex-AOL users perspective.

1) As I've said before in regards to this issue, I don't give two shits
how big AOL is, that is NOT a justification for their behavior. Stop
acting like sheep while paying to take their crap.

2) There are interoperability standards which are meant to prevent the
problems you are experiencing from occurring. The fact that AOL has
chosen to IGNORE those standards does not place the onus on Dave to
"fix" the problem. If Dave were to abandon the Internet mail
protocols, the hundreds (thousands?) of non-AOL users who are on
systems which respect these industry standard protocols might be
negatively affected. Did you ever stop to think about that? I doubt
    it.

3) I, and I believe the majority of Slowhanders, support Dave's efforts
to provide the Digest on an industry standard platform which
guarantees compatibility with the maximum number of users.

Now if you have problems, complain to the cause of your problem, AOL and
their crappy proprietary software. But then, I'm sure you have and
you've probably been told "Tough Shit" by AOL. You pay for your service,
don't let them dictate to you, stop your whining and show AOL how you
feel about how they are treating you. Why don't you drop them as your
ISP and let them know why you are leaving? There are plenty of other
ISPs around. Your anger is misdirected vent it at the source.

"Roll in Over" was recorded with Mason and released
as a single. It was later recalled, I wonder if it
was because of the subject of the song or because
Mason went off to promote "Alone Together". I've
also wondered if the D in Derek was because of Dave.
Many people believe it was for Duane but we all know
Duane came into the picture later. I think the
original idea was for Bobby to stick to keyboards.
I've heard of that first show with Dave, and I think
I've even seen a poster with Dave's name on it . It
Sure would be nice to hear it. - James

Greetings,
I'm sorry to have held out so long. It seems the Portland show has a lot of
interest. I went to London R.A.H. Feb 9 ,10, Seattle 4,Vancouver 5, and
Portland 7. Have digital pix from all, but particularly good from Portland.
Lee Dickson (?) handed EC his new Strat but he refused, opting for the 335
which he played as I recall until the end (Layla??? I may be able to go back
and listen again?) when he switched to Les Paul.I was within the first 3
rows most shows and row 2 for Portland. I taped most all of the Vancouver
show and where my tapes ended, I filled in with Portland cuts. Right after
Doyle's warm up I was talking to the Portland arena staff stage left and
noticed a familiar face amongst the crew to be Nathan East who was gracious
enough to shake hands and sign an autograph for me. Please understand that
my taping was on a very inexpensive micro cassette and was only for my
personal momento. I am trying to find time to EQ and burn to CD and would be
happy to share. I've been avoiding boot collecting as many of my interests
soon turn to hobbies then to obsessions and finally on to complete
addictions. Maybe it's time to just say yes.
Best Wishes,
Monte

Hi again-

Just wondering if someone can fill me in on any additional information about
this? On Amazon.com, the ASIN# is B00005QD75 and it will be released on
October 23. The full title is, "Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues: The
Worlds of Charley Patton."

At a hefty price of $156.57, it's got to be several discs, and it's got me
intrigued to say the least.

Thanks in advance for any help...

-Brian
