Hi all,

it finally happened: last Thursday evening the Dutch commercial TV-station
V8 broadcasted The Concert for New York!
But it was just a compilation, and it lasted for only two hours. I taped the
show and watched it this weekend.
I think the show was fun to watch with a lot of different styles of music
and some really good performances.
My comments on E (if anyone wants to know):
The compilation only aired "Everything Is Gonna Be Alright". First of all it
was great to see E together with BG.
The performance was oke, a bit autopilot by both of them, like some on the
list have said already.
Lots of smiles between the two, which made it fun to watch. Seeing E smile
so much isn't what I expected,
because when I saw him on March 26 in the Ahoy in Rotterdam, he wasn't
smiling a lot.
My girlfriend and myself had a great laugh when Paul McCartney came on stage
on began to sing "Let It Be".
How many times did Paul McCartney shouted during solo time: "Eric Clapton"
or "come on Eric give us a solo".
He really wanted Eric to show MSG some great guitar stuff. I think it is a
great thing to hear Paul scream for Eric.
It is weird to see that Eric doesn't step in front of the stage, like Pete
Townsend, Keith Richards or any other guitarist would do.
He just stays behind and takes his solo like the rest of you all ready
noticed. That was worth a laugh.
But I think it was good to hear Paul McCartney yelling several times to Eric
that he should do what he's good at: playing guitar.

Because I saw E smiling so much I think he was feeling all right that night.
That's what the purpose of the concert was I think:
everybody had to feel some joy that evening, have some fun and relax in
these hard times the people of New York are facing today.

Last thing I want to say: Keep the faith in freedom.

Jeroen

P.S. I am fairly new to trading and the digest. Had some trades and I want
to thank Eddy Pollet and Philip Jeromin for the great E stuff.

It's from "A Very Special Christmas" from 1999 (I think!!) This is an
annual event performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. for the
Special Olympics. There's a tasty version of "Blue Christmas" by E.C. as
well. I see the VSC releases (from various years) at Best Buy every year at
Christmas time, but that particular album is always higher priced than any
of the others. I'm assuming that it is one of the better programs. I
bought it last year and have enjoyed it during the season.

Kuko,
That song "Christmas Blues" with John Popper and EC was part of a charity
concert done for the Special Olympics in a huge tent set up on the south
lawn of the White House on 17 Dec 1998. The thing was hosted by President
and Mrs. Clinton. Folks did a variety of pop, blues and Christmas songs. A
record with some of the songs came out in Oct of 1999 with the John Popper
tune and a couple other songs with EC playing. My favorite track on the
album is Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" and EC doing his magic on it.
Here are the particulars:

A Very Special Christmas Live-From Washington, D.C. (A & M 069 490 484-2)
released 19 Oct 1999.
Various Artists including Vanessa Williams, Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Run-DMC,
Mary J. Blige, Smashing Pumpkins, and Eric Clapton; Clapton is featured on
“Christmas Tears,” with John Popper on “Christmas Blues,” in a duet with
Sheryl Crow on “Merry Christmas Baby,” with Tracy Chapman on “Give Me One
Reason,” and on the encore with the group on “Santa Claus Is Coming to
Town.”

Did I also mention it sounds very Claptonesque? Check it out.

It would appear that Dan Rease and/or his friend is back in
business and working at http://www.rarerockvideos.net. I have
been receiving complaints from other groups regarding typical
Rease behaviour, and a quick look at the web site is all the proof
you need.

Hi Kuko,

About Can't Find My Way, you can find a live version from 75' in the EC was
Here (Crossroads II and Time Pieces II also contain that), which Eric does
a second voice in a duet with Ivonne Elliman, his former backing vocal. In
the Old Grey's Whilstle Test video from 78 (BBC program), Elliman sings
that alone, Eric left stage to take some bourbon (booze times...). During
the Journeyman/24 nights tour the song came back. In the Albert Hall he
played that with the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, and in my first EC
concert, in Rio de Janeiro in oct.90', I had the privilege to listen a
great version, with Nathan East doing the main vocal. The extension of the
melody is too high for Eric to sing that, that's why I believe he doesn't
play this tune very often, just when he's a good singer to do that in the
band. From time to time, this song showed up in his set list since Blind
Faith, I haven't heard about him playing it in the 80's though.

About Christmans Blues, I've downloaded that too. It came from a x'mas
concert at the White House in 98'or 99'. Ther's a duo with Sheryl Crow too,
and an ending encore with everyone, including Crow, Popper, Jon Bon Jovi,
Mary J.Blidge.

I hope it has been helpful.

Cheers, Fabio Dwyer

this just in:

Nathan East Accepted Into The Elite Magic Circle

Fourplay bassist Nathan East has just been
knighted and accepted into the world's most elite organization of Magicians
known as The Magic Circle. In addition to being a premier bassist,
songwriter and producer, Nathan performs magic on the side. Last month,
Nathan was accepted into The Magic Circle at their headquarters located in
London. The Magic Circle, currently consisting of approximately 1,500
members throughout the world, was founded in 1905 as a society dedicated to
promoting and advancing the art of magic. To become a member you not only
have to demonstrate a practical ability in the art of magic, but also
undergo an interview with one of the senior members of The Magic Circle and
pass an exhaustive examination.

In the meantime, Nathan is putting the finishing touches on his upcoming
debut solo album appropriately titled "Makin' Magic."
