Dr. Proctor,

Maybe he can perform some magic on EC: take him off autopilot, make him play
mo' betta guitar, change some equipment, etc., etc.

Hi all,

Spent the last few days checking out the new Hyde Park DVD and it's pretty
good sound-wise.
It's not as good as the MSG DVD, but that release is a benchmark in my view
(bettered only by the most recent BB King DVD release which is absolutely
superb). All the audio options are present (PCM Stereo, DD5.1 and DTS). I've
only listened to the DTS soundtrack.

Bearing in mind it's probably taken quite abit of tweaking of the sound it
ain't a bad job - I did have to tweak the sub down a few notches because the
bass was a bit heavy and thumpy, which I don't have to do with MSG/BBK
(infact I can seriously crank it with them). It also seems a lot more biased
towards the centre speaker than the others.

It sure is good to see this show again, since I don't have any analogue
equipment right now so my VHS copy is confined to a box somewhere. I was
alarmed to see Michael Knight of Knight Rider fame playing the drums, before
I realised that like me Steve Gadd used to have BIG hair!

I don't think it's out in the US for a few weeks but it's well worth
getting.
Enjoy!

Elliot

It definitely was played then, it's just that Nathan sang it Cause EC said
it was too high a key for him.

This is from a newspaper article in today's [Tuesday 10/30] issue of the
Chicago Suntimes [link to web page is below].

"All the greats under the Sun"
October 30, 2001
BY DAVE HOEKSTRA STAFF REPORTER

A ribbon of freedom connects the songs on the ''Good Rockin' Tonight (The
Legacy of Sun Records)" tribute album released today on London-Sire Records.

Bob Dylan sings ''Red Cadillac and a Black Moustache" with freewheeling
dignity, matchbox twenty updates Charlie Rich's "Lonely Weekend" with a pop
shuffle and Eric Clapton and the Impressions reinterpret the Prisonaires
"Walkin' in the Rain" through a soulful deliverance.

Clapton's "Walkin' in the Rain" is the record's most intriguing track.
Phillips originally recorded "Walkin' in the Rain" in 1953 with the
Prisonaires, an Ink Spots-influenced group who were incarcerated in the
state penitentiary, 200 miles away from Memphis in Nashville. When the
Prisonaires gained permission to leave the slammer to record at Sun, guards
waited next door to the Sun Studios at the old Taylor's Cafe. Crooner Johnny
Ray heard the Prisonaires track and popularized "Walkin' in the Rain" in
'56.

''I didn't think anybody could touch (Prisonaire lead singer) Johnny Bragg
[who was doing 99 years on rape charges]," Phillips said. ''But this is one
of the best things I've heard. I knew a guy whose uncle was a guard in the
maximum security prison. I heard there was a songwriter in there. I drove to
Nashville to speak with warden James Edwards, who made them available. I
didn't have much money, but I even had to pay for the guards to come to
Memphis. We always worked with people who didn't have opportunity. That's
what this is all about."

Phillips continues to be recognized for his immense contributions to the
soundtrack of the 20th century. On Nov. 7, he will be inducted into the
Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, making him the only person to have
a spot in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame and
the Blues Hall of Fame.

GIVE ME HOPE, HARRISON TELLS MEDICAL WORLD

October 31, 2001
BY BILL ZWECKER SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

George Harrison is not giving up in his tough battle
with cancer. Along with receiving extensive treatments
at an alternative medical facility in
Switzerland--reported earlier this year--the former
Beatle has returned to the United States to seek help.

While the New York press has reported Harrison being
treated at Staten Island University Hospital, sources
tell this column the music legend also has sought
advice from cancer experts at New York's famed
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Cleveland
Clinic and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.--where
he earlier was a patient.
