Wouldn't be the best venue but, he could go fishing in the St. Clair River after. My question for him would be "Are you looking for a nanny?" The song that I would like to hear him play is Born In Time. Tentatively titled The Greatest Bluesman Of All Time-A Tribute To John Lee Hooker, Volume 1, the first three tracks have been completed under the expert production of ex-Cream lyricist Pete Brown (Rattlesnake Guitar-The Music of Peter Green, Dick Heckstall-Smith and friends-blues and beyond and Knights of The Blues Table). The tracks are: "In The Mood" featuring Jack Bruce (bass and lead vocals), Gary Moore (guitars) and Gary Husband (drums); "Serve Me Right To Suffer" with Gary Moore (lead vocals and guitars), Jack Bruce (bass) and Gary Husband (drums); and "This Is Hip" with Mick Taylor (lead vocals and guitars), Max Middleton (piano) and Godfrey McLain (drums.) In addition, the Peter Green Splinter Group has contributed one of Peter's favorite John Lee tracks "Crawlin' King Snake." Next week, a major session will feature legendary guitarist Jeff Beck recording two tracks-on the first, Jeff will be performing the John Lee Hooker arrangement of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" backed by a Gospel choir, then he will be doing "Hobo Blues" with Earl Green (lead vocals), ace drummer Richard Bailey, keyboardist Dave "Munch" Moore and bassist David Hadley. Also scheduled for next week will be a session presenting keyboardist/vocalist Gary Brooker (Procol Harum) and guitarist to the stars Andy Fairweather-Low. London sessions after next week are still being finalized and all appearances are subject to change but we can tell you that the list of musicians who have been approached and have expressed a sincere interest in participating include Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Jimmy Page (The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin), Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings, Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company) and a possible reunion of Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty of The Yardbirds. On the U.S. side, recording has been completed on "Jesse James", performed by LLC. LLC is comprised of the celebrated Ten Years After rhythm section of Leo Lyons (bass) and Ric Lee (drums) backing guitar wizard Vince Converse. Sessions scheduled for the United States include George Thorogood, Little Feat, a representation from The Grateful Dead and a very special track from Zakiya Hooker and her band Bluz 4 U. Zakiya is John Lee's daughter and in addition to her performance, she will be contributing both liner notes and family photos to the project. Artists who have been approached for future U.S. sessions include Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Vaughn, Sue Foley, Savoy Brown featuring Kim Simmonds, Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth, Mr. Big), Scott Holt with John Kay (Steppenwolf) and BB King. There is also scheduled to be a very, very special surprise track, but at this time more cannot be revealed. Why, you may ask, are musicians of this caliber lining up for this project for this label? There are three simple reasons: first, most- if not all-had their careers influenced to a significant degree by John Lee Hooker. Second, Blue Storm Music is donating a portion of the proceeds from these recordings to The John Lee Hooker Foundation and that, indirectly, leads to the third reason. We at Blue Storm Music have both a great love and respect for the Blues. It is why we undertake projects like this: it is why we record them in the more authentic analog mode instead of digital. We believe the Blues are a precious part of our heritage-a true international music form-and this belief comes across to everyone from consumers to musicians. And finally, lest you think that the Blues are a minor element in music, think about this: there will be a major six-part series on PBS next year hosted by director Martin Scorcese, with each part handled by a different director. Spike Lee directed the first episode, which includes John Lee Hook er. There is also a motion before Congress to declare 2002 "The Year Of The Blues." The Blues goes on forever. Be seeing you. Please email me if you do. jack --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: GREG Wenker Subject: Re: Cream DVD farewell concert Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii The release of this farewell concert footage brings up another question I've had for years. Whatever happened to all the footage that the BBC shot in in March '68 at Fillmore of the Cream? I've seen still photo's of concerts where you could see the camera's? I know some of it showed up on "Fresh Live Cream". __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Find a job, post your resume. http://careers.yahoo.com --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: Stephen McKellar Subject: Unreliable Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Just wanted to post the digest about an unreliable trader named Shawn Atanasoff. He posted the digest last June about sending out shows to those that could answer an EC question. Unfortunately i was one of the "winners". Shawn acknowledged receiving my blanks but have heard little and nothing since Aug 27. I have been in touch with 3 other people Shawn has decided he no longer needs to be in touch with. They like me have heard nothing from him. One of these people requested a return receipt when he sent his emails to Shawn. He received the receipts so Shawn was reading his emails. He just didn't see any need to hold up his end of the bargain. What's really funny however is that Shawn sent me a primer on b&p's. Too bad he's never read it. I've traded with many people on the digest and have sent out extra shows gratis and will continue to do so in spite of cheap losers like Shawn. I hope decides to defend himself. It would be nice to hear from him. Steve McKellar --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "DeltaNick" Subject: Anybody Know? Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Anyone know anything about this? ... digital cable thing which has a channel called "Trio" or something like that. Anyhow, recently it aired a 3-hour live Clapton program, half of it being a rather old show, the other half more recent. Both were about 90 minutes long. The guy didn't tape it, of course, but claims it to be coming on again ... the older one is the "interesting" one ... friend described Clapton has having longer hair and a heavier beard. Sounded like Old Grey Whistle Test, but the 90 minute part threw me. It's not "24 Nights," that's for sure, guy said it was older material. Anyhow, maybe one of the slowhand digest folks might know?
