Phil left EC's band and played on the Dire Straits world tour in 1992 - you
can see and hear him in the official release of the tour "On the Night". In
1993 he toured with Pete Townshend on his "Psychoderelict" tour - that's
available on the "Pete Townshend Live" release, some nice stuff there as
well. In '94 I think he did some touring and recording with Bob Dylan. I
know I've spotted him on some awards shows and things like that as well
since then, and have seen his name on several recording credits.

That's all off the top of my head, but I know I've spotted him in things
since then as well....

3 post-70s songs with passion, fire and firepower:

1. "St. James Infirmary" from the Duets show with Dr. John.

2. "Little Wing" with Sheryl Crow and David Sanborn.

3. "Double Trouble"; various versions thru the '80s.

With Eric's participation on the Paul McCartney track "Freedom" (also on the
Driving Rain CD), he now becomes the only guest or session player to have
participated on a Beatles recording (While My Guitar Gently Weeps) and on
recordings by all 4 solo Beatles. Obviously he has worked extensively in the
past on records by Harrison, Lennon and Starr, but this is his first
McCartney credit.
Billy Preston comes close, having worked with The Beatles on the Get Back
sessions, but he is yet to participate to a McCartney recording as far as I
am aware. Then there's guys like Jim Keltner, Klaus Voorman, Jim Gordon,
Jesse Ed Davis, who worked with John, George and Ringo, but not Paul, who
has generally drawn his support players from other sources.

Trivial I know, but just another small notch on Eric's Strat.

Cheers,
Jon

he's one of the most in demand touring guitarists. He can play all styles.
After EC he went on tour with Mark Knopfler for a year, then Pete Townshend.
Not sure who he's with at the moment.

I picked up a copy of Riding With the King, which was listed as a DVD at
CDNow. And it is just really a CD that you play on your DVD player. There is
nothing new here, at least on this one. There are different sound options,
so if you want it all in Surround Sound, then I guess it's worth picking up.
Otherwise, forget it.

Just read a post, forwarded by David Hillman, from the most recent
digest (#297)
Someone named Denise who is "chicago born & blues schooled". Well I
think she missed class on the day when they were teaching common sense.
Actually that's something you have to be born with so being schooled
would not have helped her anyway.
Apparently she's annoyed with Delta Nick for stimulating conversation
and playing the part of an interviewer while asking members of the
Digest questions about EC. How dare Nick ask these questions in such
bold and brazen manner?
If you ask me the digest has been pretty dull lately (to no one's fault
- there just hasn't been much going on) and Nick's little questionnaire
was enjoyable to participate in. I also liked reading the other Digest
members responses!
She stated:
< Part of me believes you just have one of those infantile
personalities that gets great pleasure from irritating people to get
reactions. Do you think Muddy could play, what is your critique of his
slide work, esp. in the later years? Was he lazy and fat too? >

There are many here who would testify that Nick knows his shit when it
comes to all things Claptonian and further more I would offer that this
person's viewpoint only serves to highlight the fact that she has taken
the "Nick Interview" all wrong.

This woman has got to win the award for taking things out of
context!!! I say, "Lighten up lady!"

Well, I would suspect that, inevitably, there will be a George Harrison Tribute Album of some kind. What song should EC play?

ironing!

One of the effects of middle age (and post-treatment) is a calming
realization that trying to please everyone, especially one's detracters, is
life's biggest pre-occupation and one's largest waste of time. Life's focus
becomes doing those things that bring personal satisfaction, honoring those
people you respect and the family you love that stood beside you through the
good and bad. Rwtk and Reptile do justice to both for which I have nothing
but the highest admiration. Cruise on brother!

I know with all the rush of the seasons, some of you may have forgotten to
pick me up something for Christmas - well, here's your chance:

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1496376920

Pricey - but then again I'm worth it! I figure if everyone gets together
you could all make it a group present.

Thanks in advance,

Mark Deavult
