There is only *one* audio extraction program, and that's Exact Audio Copy,
or EAC. It's cardware available for download from the author's website at:

http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

This is a topic that needs to be touched on, and I'm glad Josh brought it
up - I've received more bad discs in trade in the past six months, than I
have in the past six years! Part of that is of course that as the price of
hardware has fallen, a lot of newbies have entered the fold, people who
think that tossing a disc in and selecting "copy disc" in EZ CD DESTRUCTOR
and other useless software actually makes a clone of a disc. There are
still people burning discs with gaps between the tracks! Amazing. My
distance record is about 30 yards, for a disc with gaps sailed out of the
car window after I hit the first gap!

Folks, the promise of digital audio is that everyone gets the same quality.
When you aren't willing to put a little effort into making a clear copy,
you're polluting the trading pool. And nobody likes to see yellow when
they're getting ready for a swim! Until recently the Clapton community had
been free of many problems, simply because most EC collectors are older,
more, shall we say, fiscally secure, and probably a little more dedicated
than the fans in some other circles. Jump into trading some of the younger
bands, and it's a complete wasteland out there. I'd go back to BUYING boots
for $50 a set before I'd deal with those folks. And especially prevalent
with some other artists, are these pinheads who download a crappy mp3, burn
it to CD, and then trade it out. I've only run across a couple trying this
with EC stuff and have done my best to blacklist them.

Extract with EAC, and burn with a decent program - most serious audio
enthusiasts use Nero, there are other programs out there that perform audio
functions equally well, if perhaps with less options and flexibility.

For help setting up EAC, there are a few excellent websites that will help
in the initial calibration, offset calculation, and general problem solving.
Check out:

dex

For encoding work, try "Superior MP3" at:

http://www.lidbom.net/superiormp3/

This bundles and installs EAC and the LAME mp3 encoder, which is one of the
best encoders available. Accurate, and reliable, and produces far better
sound quality than most other encoders. Fast, too - you can load up your
MP3 player for your morning job in the time it takes to find your shoes!

I can verify 100% that both work well with Win2kSP2, and also with W98SE.

Hope this helps,
Mark

slightly OT, but I use CDex: http://www.cdex.n3.net/

Keep on with your nice download offers (my taste!),

During my search for vintage Fender gear, I found that some of the older
Fender Stratocaster guitars had a
three-way pick-up selector rather than the five-way that they use today. My
question is
1. Does "Blackie" have a three way or five way switch?
 2. What years or models had the three way switch?

Thanks
Brian

The infamous, never-officially-released tour documentary "Eric Clapton's
Rolling Hotel", was released on VHS as part of a box set several years ago
on the "EC is Here" label in Japan.

Recently I was told that there are in fact two different versions of RH, one
longer than the other. Does anyone know if the "EC is Here" version is the
longer and more complete of the two?

Thanks!

Hi Mary, if your local B&N is out, or didn't get the
mag, Martin, another EC fan, from California, told me
he found the mag at his local Tower Records. Hope
that helps! My local Camelot Records also had it, but
I don't know if they still do.

I should be receiving a copy of this show shortly as well, so if you weren't
lucky enough to get in on one of the other offers, the first four people who
respond to this message with their address will get copies (provided they
pass it along).
