I have boots for trading Regards, Kuko --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: David Hillman Subject: Cream on the Glen Campbell Show '68 (fwd) Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Forward... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 29 Mar 2002 13:26:33 -0500 From: AnEnglishBoy To: "slowhand@planet-torque.com" Subject: Cream on the Glen Campbell Show '68 I am the fortunate possessor of one of Ginger Baker's drumsticks used in the filming of "Sunshine" on this program. A good friend's mother worked as an exec. at the studio (NBC?) where it was filmed and was given both sticks by Ginger immediately after the performance. Her late son, and my good friend, Michael, was given one, myself the other. The are Ginger Baker signature model sticks. I do not know where Michael's stick is, probably owned now by one of his sons. The other item used on that program, and on the final Cream tour, that I would give anything to own, is Clapton's sunburst Gibson Firebird I. I love the lean, stripped down elegance of that guitar. Lew~ =========== --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: Ken Maksin Subject: UNDRRGNMN Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I've seen Clapton twice at Irvine Meadows(Now Verizon Amphitheatre) at least twice. He played there when Mark Knopfler toured with him and I believe during the Journeyman Tour? He also played the Pacific Amphitheatre when Phil Collins was touring as his drummer. Don't forget Live Aid and Hyde Park... ken m >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Now I have a question. Why did Clapton not play at outdoor amphitheaters like Shoreline, SPAC, Irvine Meadows and dozens of other accross the country and maybe world? The only tour I can reemember him playing an outdor show in Los Angeles was when he toured with Elton John years ago, and they played at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. I don't know where they played in other city's. Keith --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: Sandlin Daniel Subject: EC outdoor concerts Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I've seen EC outdoors twice. Once was at Legion Field in Birmingham in 1974. This was the first time I had ever seen him in concert and the highlight was the solo on Badge. He plays that song on autopilot now but back then it was intense enough to give you chills. I also remember that he spent a lot of time sitting on one of his amps or speaker cabinets while he played during the concert. A cousin of mine was in front of the stage taking pictures (you could do that back then) and said he had a headache for three days because it was so loud. I think the Charlie Daniels Band and either Wet Willie or Lynrd Skynrd opened the show but that memory is pretty foggy. The other time was at the Oak Mountain Ampitheater in Birmingham about a week after SRV died in 1990. He played great (highlight: Old Love solo) but never mentioned the accident. There were a lot of people in the parking lot selling Tshirts from the Alpine Valley concert. I wish I had bought one now. First four people to email me will get copies. Patti --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: Bryan Reid Subject: Best Electric "Layla" Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT I would have to admit being somewhat bemused by this thread. I never thought there was any dispute on the question and that there was only one possible answer. To wit, December 1st, 1970; Curtis Hixon Hall, Tampa FL The only live recording of EC and Duane playing "Layla" together. EC still in the throes of guilt about and desire for Patti Harrison, so his passion in playing and singing was at its highest level. EC and Duane fueling each other and driving each other to extraordinary heights of virtuositic excess. 7 1/4 minutes of blistering guitar and EC's impassioned, anguished singing at its best. I was there and I would rank that concert as being among the best of EC's I've ever seen, overshadowed only by Cream in Chicago 2 1/2 years earlier. The surviving recording is far from the best but the performance is unparalleled IMHO. --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "Shanahan" Subject: Bubokan - VCD offer Downunder Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Thanks to the generosity of Mark Deavult........ I love that it has the BBB EC had dedicated to Alphi, and the BADGE he did for George, and that we can share all this. . . REPTILE is the best I've heard so far with David Sancious' synthesizer sounding like a jazzy horn section! And EC's voice was great, even through that awful I WANNA LITTLE GIRL song, oy. Many thanks to all for starting and carrying this on. Well, it's EC's birthday and my presents to honor it are going to the first 5, from anywhere, who e-mail me at ishraq99@yahoo.com (with burners). . . and ALSO to the first 3 e-mailers, from anywhere, who have NO burners, but need to hear this wonderful show! This tree thing discriminates against the woeful, downtrodden burner-less, tsk, tsk, tsk, ~ so make it ~ to the first 5 who have no burners. . . I know I have one old cd player that only runs the 74 minute cdrs, and all my copies so far are on the 80 minute ones, so if you need the 74 minute version, please specify, thanks! Will notify the recipients. What a great way to celebrate EC's birthday! And many happy returns to him and to all of us, too! ~ Ishraq ~ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
