Thanks for your replies, Luis, Portugal --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "Dan & Dave Imparato" Subject: Re: Biggest mistake EC has made? Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Now this is an interesting question. I would probably have to say his biggest mistake was abandoning the Dominos before their (musical) time was up. I've always thought they had the potential to be one the greatest rock bands of all time. -Dan --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "Billy D. Strayhorn" Subject: EC Mistakes Response Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In an effort to spice up more discussion.. Let's see if this is a good topic. I have always been thinking about what has been Eric's biggest mistake personally or professionally? I think : 1. listening to the Band's Music from Big Pink was a big mistake, cause he abandoned Gibsons, etc. 2. The fact that he hooked up with Simon Climie has been a mistake.. 3. I think for better for worse. Leaving Mayall was a mistake, IMO Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Apurva Apurva, you sure like to stir things up. 1. I disagree, EC still plays Gibsons, occasionally. What it has done is widen his range of guitars which widened his range of sounds. I have always been and will always be amazed at what this man can do with six strings. I'll bet he could even make a ukelele sound good. 2. I disagree, while Climie has definitely taken EC down a different road, I personally think wa are richer for it. While I really enjoy all the classic stuff, I have thoroughly enjoyed the last three CDs. They offer a different side to EC. Again, they have widened EC's range or styles. If you don't like the stuff, you can always opt to listen to his older music. And if you'll listen to everything that EC has recorded since Backless in order of their recording, you'll hear a subtle change in styles. The man is about redefining himself over and over again. His personal journey and a revelation of what that journey has meant to his life comes through every one of his songs. His music is his autobiography. Even in the retro pieces and compilations with others, he is giving tribute to those who influenced him. 3. Well, I can't disagree but neither can I fully agree. My first love in music is the blues. I have a Freddie King CD playing right now (of course it's the one with EC on it, Staying' At Home With The Blues). EC is one heck of a bluesman. He can make the blues guitar wail. If you happened to be lucky enough to see the Nothing But The Blues tour, you know what I mean. However, had EC stuck with Mayall, we probably wouldn't have such soul wrenching pieces as Tears In Heaven, My Father's Eyes and Circus Left Town. Not would we have one of the most beautiful love ballads ever written, "Wonderful Tonight." So from one perspective, I agree but from the larger perspective I disagree. IMO Billy --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "Billy D. Strayhorn" Subject: Clapton's Address Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit As to Clapton's Address and which room he stays in: Everyone who's an EC fan knows the answer to that one. It's the "White Room" of course. Billy --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: Sandlin Daniel Subject: Clapton's address Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I thought everyone knew he lived on 461 Ocean Boulevard, Miami. DS --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "Loraine Taylor" Subject: Re: digest attachments Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed I think its because attachments are just how some servers receive the digest. My hotmail address comes as all one message, but I have the digest also delivered to work and we just switch software from Groupwise (which delivered the digest to me as separate messages, but there was a way so view it as all one) to Microsoft Outlook (which delivers the Digest as separate attachments and you have to view it that way.) I know what you all mean now, its really annoying delivered separately like that. Loraine --- original message ------------- Mary McFarland wrote: I have the same problem. Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit While this may be an interesting topic, I'd hate to think anybody would laser in on my past to scrutinize my "biggest mistake". Certainly we've all made personal mistakes in our lives, and Eric is fallible -- just like me. I'll pass on commenting regarding his personal decisions/actions. Professionally speaking, I *wish* I'd made the "mistakes" Eric Clapton has made in his life! I was just musing last night as I picked away on my Martin EC signature guitar (Tears in Heaven) -- thinking "I wonder how actually talented Eric thought himself to be when he struck out to be a professional musician". I'm just an adequate player, and I entertain myself more than my wife, or my kids, or my dog. I wondered if I could have held my own, playing with Eric back in 1960. I am of the opinion that I might have been able to swing it. Eric has worked his ass off to be the master he is today. Nothing will start an argument faster than a couple of guitar players discussing whether or not Eric lives up to his reputation. Obviously, I think he does -- and more, but others are at the other end of the spectrum. I happen to admire the fact that Eric has made more than "the best" of his life professionally. I think his "adventures" have helped to allow this occurrence. ...with apologies... Mistakes, I've made a few. "But, it ain't nobody's business what I do."
