And by the way, how about her video for her new release, "Soak up the Sun". That is one beautiful, talented woman. There's a mistake but I'm not going there, some things should be left alone. I think E.C.'s biggest personal mistake, from an outsider's perspective, would be his heavy involvement with drugs and alcohol to the point where it destroyed his relationship with his wife Pattie. It hurt his physical health as well. As far as his biggest professional mistake, my opinion would be that it has nothing to do with any of his musical abilities or creative output. I think that earlier in his career, with Blind Faith and the Dominos, he got involved with projects with massive potential that was never fully realized because of a lack of direction or "take charge" initiative on his part. Now granted, at the time, I don't think he had that kind of personality but he should have taken greater responsibility or had management in place to handle it. Good topic of discussion! Best regards, Dave B --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: Tildemarie@aol.com Subject: Blues related mystery-novel about Robert Johnson Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Now...for those of you who like to read a good mystery{I already KNOW you enjoy the Blues!} you might like to pick up a paperback book by Ace Atkins. I happened into a bookstore in the Town(of Oxford)Square early Saturday morning...browsing for a book and when I saw "Crossroad Blues" as the title, of course... it automatically caught my eye. Anywho, this young author is a disciple of the Blues who has done some extensive research on many of the bluesmen of the Mississippi Delta region and has written several mysteries around a charming character named Nick Travers. I''ve already finished Crossroads Blues (ISBN 0-312-97192-3) and really hated to put it down..a real page turner. The characters are still hopping around in my brain! For me... there is plenty of local trivia also but I think...just the same...IF you like Blues(and the history of it!) and mystery and want to also acquire some interesting info about Robert Johnson (and others), this might be an good read for you. Let me know what you think; I mean, this is still all so new to me, too and I would like to hear what some of you--more seasoned Blues' followers have to think about the book and the author. Ace Atkins also wrote, Leavin' Trunk Blues and Dark End of the Street and will have another Nick Travers mystery out in the Fall .Booklist and Kirkus Reviews, in addition to "my" opinion give Crossroad Blues great reviews. It's characters certainly are intriguing -- besides Nick Travers, there's a sociopathic teenage Elvis look-alike, a red-haired blues singer, and an aged albino who apparently holds the key to the mystery of Johnson's "lost recordings". After all these years, the legend -- or maybe "myth" would be a better word choice -- of Robert Johnson continues to find fresh ways of resurfacing. Since RLJ is one of Eric Clapton's favorite bluesmen, I thought I would pass this interesting read along. Hope those of you who take the bait...enjoy! Mimi PS Does anyone know a REALLY good place in Memphis to dine? A college graduation celebration-type place----a little classey maybe, but More-Over... good food and close in to downtown(Beale Street) area. Please email me privately. Thanks! --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: ecmk@ig.com.br Cc: Subject: EC mistake, SD software, etc Hi all, Well, I don't know if it was "his" or whoever mistake's, I even don't know if there's copyright issue envolved on that, but not having released "Ain't Nobody's Business" in FTC or an oficial live concert of the Blues tour is not "OK" for me...... On another note, I realise that many people have been writing frequently reporting problems to read the Digest (AOL users, etc) , I myself have been having some problems too. I don't want to blame nobody's job, I even don't know who actually administrates this Digest, but whoever you are congratulations, it's been always useful; Anyway, having subscribed many lists at "yahoogroups", "Majordomo" and "Tully" - please, forgive me if I am going the wrong way - wouldn't it be a good idea to try to change SD to any of these ? I have always been receiving lists from these as Digests with no problems at Eudora, Lotus Notes, Outlook, many Web mail softwares, etc; there's also the possibility to receive the list as individual messages (I myself don't like that). I am sorry, I myself couldn't manage it as I really don't have a good connection, and as I said I do consider that the person that current takes it here on deserves all our compliments, Regards, Andre http://www.xroads.hpg.com.br _________________________________________________________________________ Você podia estar baixando sua musica predileta, enquanto lia esse e-mail. I would probably have to say his biggest mistake was abandoning the Dominos before their (musical) time was up. I've always thought they had the potential to be one the greatest rock bands of all time. << Seems to me that D&D's time WAS up. Otherwise, they wouldn't have disbanded. And it seems that Cream's, and Blind Faith's times were up as well, not to mention EC's membership in the Yardbirds, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, and Delaney & Bonnie. If a band breaks up, as much as we may dislike it, the band--or the member departing--believes that their time is up. Sorry to break the news to you, but that's just the way it is. Microsoft Outlook (which delivers the Digest as separate attachments and you have to view it that way.) I know what you all mean now, its really annoying delivered separately like that. << I don't know why all the complaints over such a trivial matter. T least you receive the Digest. Remember, it COULD be worse! I receive it this way (separate posts) and actually prefer it. If I want to respond to an individual post, all I have to do is hit "Reply," and sometimes add an address. I cannot do this the "old" way. When I first subscribed, I received the Slowhand Digest as one, continuous message. Later on, different computer software changed the mode of delivery. At first, I disliked it and resisted. But in just a few days, my mind was changed. I find it MUCH more convenient this way. Try it ... you may eventually like it. I disagree. While certainly EC as a human being was falling apart because of his heroin addiction, I think he was at his peak musically, both in terms of song writing and guitar playing. If he had managed to get himself together at the time, I believe that he and the Dominos could have produced some more great music. I think their second album sessions alone attest to this. -Dan --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: "Gerhard Kleintges" Subject: new volunteers for Scotts Farewell box in europe Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi everyone, this is my second attempt to announce: Rather than taking the first ones I prefered to serve volunteers in different countries for a wider spread.
