I now offer it to the list I will conduct a random drawing for 5 lucky winners of a copy of the popular Budokan VCD from all the people who reply to me with their mailing address before Wednesday April 24 2002 at Noon GMT (7amCDT). That's in my Inbox, not time-stamped by the deadline... ;o) The random drawing won't have layers or representatives of any accounting firm present, it won't be a pompous ceremony, and their will be no fabulous spokesmodel present. Winners need not be present to win, and will be notified via email. One entry per person, duplicate entries will be thrown out. Judge's decisions are final. Odds of winning are better than the Lotto drawings odds. King, and particularly Buddy Guy. He was playing a Telecaster at the time, and I convinced him to try my Les Paul, which he wanted to buy. So I brought it to this session he was doing, and he immediately started using it. That turned out to be the Fresh Cream album. So then I wound up with the Telecaster, which I played all through the Police and still use today. << It seems that each time Andy Summers speaks about the Gibson Les Paul guitar EC borrowed, he takes a bit more credit for inspiring Clapton. Over the years, Summers has said several differing things about this. After reading a number of his quotes, including this one, it becomes painfully obvious that he refers NOT to Clapton's original, 1960 Bluesbreakers Les Paul, which was stolen during Cream's initial rehearsals. No, Clapton bought that one on his own, largely as a result of a picture of Freddy King on the cover of an album titled "Let's Hide Away And Dance Away." Clapton's original Les Paul was stolen shortly after he left the Bluesbreakers, in July 1966. Since EC knew that Andy Summers owned a Les Paul, but was playing a Telecaster, he borrowed Summers' guitar and probably used it for Cream's first gigs and recording "Fresh Cream." FYI, this article will give a clearer picture of EC's first Les Paul: http://twtd.bluemountains.net.au/cream/LesPaul.htm. Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit What is this BS? Why bring up something like this when there isn't even a single reported case of people cheating? Why even give one person the idea on how to cheat? How about just emailing folks who offer up the set on the digest? Seems to always work for me. Funny thing is that nobody replied to my offer for the Budokan VCD the other day on the digest. The offer stills stands for the first 5 respondents to receive a copy. I also have a copy of the birthday set for the first 5 "real-time" respondents. regards, Ivan ----- Original Message ----- From: Sent: Sunday, April 21, 2002 6:07 PM Subject: How to be one of the first five in the offerings > Greetings fellow Slowhanders. > > I've heard from alot of people that only accepting the first five requests for > a show is unfair. I get the feeling from your note that you might have gotten jilted. It does have a lottery type feeling to it, but if everyone who got their copy offered it up to burn, then it would work as well as a tree. Let me stress again if EVERYONE offered to make the copies. I recently burned for about 12 people who inquired to me about the birthday box. However I have not seen everyone that I burned for offer it up on the digest, unfortunately. I attribute that to several reasons: 1. They dont have the capability to burn discs 2. They may be procrastinators, in that case they already forgot about it. 3. It takes time to burn discs, and get to the post office 4. Their computer crashed and they havent been able to access the digest. (giving benefit of the doubt in case they are really selfish) dont misunderstand I think trees work great also to cover the masses, but there are inherent problems to trees as well. It is a lot of work for one person to setup a tree and maintain. With people offering 5 (as opposed to 3 with some trees) there is a greater likelihood more people will be able to get the discs. There is no magic number out there, if you only have time to offer to 2 people, so be it, at least it is being shared. Really when you boil it all down it is still a tree without the structure. As for the setting the time clock issue, I went by order in my mailbox. You could make it fun and send to the first five with a great joke to send or the first five to answer an EC question right. If you missed out on the birthday box, I would be happy to share with you. On occassion there is known to be great distances between the 2. Perhaps, discussing this with people who rarely listen to Clapton, or maybe discussing it with someone who is a member of an Allman Brothers list, and NOT a member of this list, you may find a different perception. I did mention I was absolutely not discussing facts. --=_--SlowhandDigest-- From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Leo=20Coomans?= Subject: EC Birthday Box Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Thanks to a trade with a good Aussie I know have this wonderful box.
